KØBENHAVN – Den danske regering har bidraget med yderligere DKK 16 millioner til FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) for at imødegå det akutte behov for fødevarehjælp blandt Rohingya-flygtninge og værtssamfund.
”Danmark sætter stor pris på den generøsitet, Bangladesh’ regering udviser under denne humanitære krise og anerkender den enorme byrde, krisen udgør for værtslandet.
WFP er til stede i over 120 lande og territorier. Vi yder livreddende assistance i nødsituationer og støtter bæredygtige og modstandsdygtige levebrød for at opnå en verden uden sult.

Under studiet har jeg arbejdet som studentermedhjælper i flere ikke statslige organisationer (NGOer), hvor jeg arbejdede med internationale forhold, som blandt andet har været relateret til WFP's mandat.
Hvordan ser en dag hos WFP’s Nordiske Kontor ud?

På en almindelig dag starter jeg min morgen med at skanne medierne igennem for artikler om den politiske udvikling i Finland for at holde mine kollegaer i hovedkontoret i Rom opdateret.
Nye opgørelser viser, at antallet af sultne mennesker i verden fortsætter med at stige og er nu nået op på 821 millioner i 2017 eller hvad der svarer til ét ud af ni mennesker, ifølge rapporten The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018, som er blevet lanceret i dag.
For tredje år i træk stiger antallet af mennesker i verden, som sulter. Sidste år var der 821 millioner kronisk underernærede mennesker i verden, hvilket er en stigning fra 811 mio. året før. 1 ud af 9 lider af sult. Afrika er det område i verdenen med den største forekomst af sult - der er 1 ud af 5, som sulter i Afrika.
