Bidraget fra Generaldirektoratet for Civilbeskyttelse og Humanitære Bistandsforanstaltninger på Europæisk Plan (ECHO) til WFP i Sydsudan vil gå til nødhjælp og ernæringstilskud til ca. 890.000 mennesker, der står over for sult som følge af konflikt og sæsonrelateret fødevareusikkerhed, herunder ca. 165.000 børn under 5 år og gravide og ammende kvinder.
FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Ud af de mere end 12 millioner mennesker vi støtter hver måned, udgør de den gruppe, der er i størst risiko for at sulte.
Sult er grusomt for alle, men ikke fuldstændig blind. Kvinder — især i krigstider — er lettere ofre for de lidelser, den medfører. Kvinder spiser sidst, og de spiser mindst.
Mens behovet for hjælp stiger drastisk, appellerer WFP om omgående økonomisk støtte og uhindret humanitær adgang.
