KØBENHAVN – FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) advarede i dag om en eskalerende humanitær krise drevet af udbredt vold og de langvarige påvirkninger af klimaforandringer, som har ramt Burkina Faso og nabolandene i det Centrale Sahel i Vestafrika.
WFP har sørget for, at 28.800 nyligt ankomne får en tredages forsyning af højenergikiks, mens 28.000 mennesker har fået et varmt måltid khichuri – en ret bestående af ris og linser – gennem folkekøkkener, som får risen af WFP.
FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Inden næste Mors Dag vil 17 millioner piger under 19 år have født. For mange regeringer og udviklingsorganisationer udgør disse mødre, som ofte findes i lav- eller middelindkomstlande, to store udfordringer.
Når katastrofesituationer og humanitære kriser rammer, øges kvinders og pigers risiko for uønsket graviditet, usikre fødsler, seksuel vold og udnyttelse.
I Sahel betød den umiddelbare adgang til fleksible midler, at WFP kunne kick-starte indsatsen i forhold til den værste høstsæson i fire år, nå ud til over 3 millioner mennesker med fødevareassistance samt afværge en enorm fødevarekrise.
