Mens behovet for hjælp stiger drastisk, appellerer WFP om omgående økonomisk støtte og uhindret humanitær adgang.

FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Inden næste Mors Dag vil 17 millioner piger under 19 år have født. For mange regeringer og udviklingsorganisationer udgør disse mødre, som ofte findes i lav- eller middelindkomstlande, to store udfordringer.
I Sahel betød den umiddelbare adgang til fleksible midler, at WFP kunne kick-starte indsatsen i forhold til den værste høstsæson i fire år, nå ud til over 3 millioner mennesker med fødevareassistance samt afværge en enorm fødevarekrise.
I sin anden udgave dækker WFP’s Counting the Beans indeks nu 52 udviklingslande. Målet er at give forbrugere i rige, industrialiserede lande en idé om, hvor stor en andel af den daglige indkomst, som er nødvendig for at sikre et basalt måltid mad i de fattigere dele af verden.

Virussen kan have katastrofale påvirkninger på små kroppe, som allerede er svage på grund af dårlig ernæring. På samme tid har pandemien også ødelæggende konsekvenser for sårbare familier, som er afhængige af en daglig løn eller remitter (pengeoverførsler).
