Videnspartnerskabet mellem SIPRI og World Food Programme (WFP) blev skabt i 2018 og har til formål at vurdere, om WFP's indsatser bidrager til at forbedre forudsætningerne for fred, og i så fald forklare hvordan. På samme tid undersøges det, om indsatserne har uønskede negative konsekvenser.
Projektet vil støtte lokalsamfund i seks distrikter - Monaragala, Matale, Mulathivu, Mannar, Batticaloa og Nuwara Eliya. Det fokuserer på at give kvindelige entreprenører mulighed for at udvikle sig gennem tiltag, der har som mål at forbedre deres færdigheder og øge deres indtjening.
Hvordan ser en dag hos WFP’s Nordiske Kontor ud?

På en almindelig dag starter jeg min morgen med at skanne medierne igennem for artikler om den politiske udvikling i Finland for at holde mine kollegaer i hovedkontoret i Rom opdateret.
Beasleys besøg finder sted samtidig med, at Libanon står over for en tredobbelt krise forårsaget af eksplosionen, et økonomisk sammenbrud samt følgerne af COVID-19. I løbet af tre dages rundrejse i Libanon besøgte Beasley havnene i Beirut og Tripoli samt overværede fødevaredistributioner og uddeling af mad fra offentlige køkkener, som bestyres af WFP’s partner Caritas.
FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Sult er grusomt for alle, men ikke fuldstændig blind. Kvinder — især i krigstider — er lettere ofre for de lidelser, den medfører. Kvinder spiser sidst, og de spiser mindst.
