Virussen kan have katastrofale påvirkninger på små kroppe, som allerede er svage på grund af dårlig ernæring. På samme tid har pandemien også ødelæggende konsekvenser for sårbare familier, som er afhængige af en daglig løn eller remitter (pengeoverførsler).
Det vurderes, at 313.000 mennesker har krydset grænsen ind i Bangladesh.
Siden 27. august har WFP forsynet flere end 68.800 mennesker med højenergikiks, i takt med de ankommer til de allerede overfyldte interimistiske lejre i Cox’s Bazar.

Få minutter inden flyet fra FN's Humanitære Flyservice (UNHAS) lander på landingsbanen i Kakuma, vokser en flygtningelejr frem i det barske landskab i det nordlige Kenya. Varmen rammer en som en mur, når man forlader flyet. Klokken er kun 9 om morgenen, og temperaturen er allerede næsten 30 grader.
KØBENHAVN – FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) advarede i dag om en eskalerende humanitær krise drevet af udbredt vold og de langvarige påvirkninger af klimaforandringer, som har ramt Burkina Faso og nabolandene i det Centrale Sahel i Vestafrika.
FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.
