Bidraget fra Generaldirektoratet for Civilbeskyttelse og Humanitære Bistandsforanstaltninger på Europæisk Plan (ECHO) til WFP i Sydsudan vil gå til nødhjælp og ernæringstilskud til ca. 890.000 mennesker, der står over for sult som følge af konflikt og sæsonrelateret fødevareusikkerhed, herunder ca. 165.000 børn under 5 år og gravide og ammende kvinder.
KØBENHAVN – FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) advarede i dag om en eskalerende humanitær krise drevet af udbredt vold og de langvarige påvirkninger af klimaforandringer, som har ramt Burkina Faso og nabolandene i det Centrale Sahel i Vestafrika.
FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Mens rekordmange mennesker flygter fra krige og konflikter, vokser bekymringerne for, at det går den forkerte vej med at bekæmpe global sult.
”Engang vil Den Internationale Fødevaredag være en dag, hvor vi fejrer en fredelig verden uden mennesker som sulter.
I Gaza er to ud af tre fødevareusikre, og World Food Programme (WFP) er derfor til stede i forreste række og giver den nødvendige assistance til 245.000 af de mest sårbare mennesker. 85% af de mennesker, som WFP bistår, modtager deres månedlige bistand i form af et elektronisk fødevarekort med ca. 65 kroner på.
