The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World er en årlig rapport der udarbejdes i fællesskab mellem FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP og WHO for at informere om fremskridt om at opnå en verden uden sult, opnå fødevaresikkerhed og forbedring af ernæring, og til at give en dybdegående analyse af centrale udfordringer for at nå dette mål i forbindelse med Verdensmålenes 2030-dagsorden.
Created in 1961 as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system, WFP was to be reassessed within three years. As crises multiplied, the experiment proved its worth. Today, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency saving lives and changing lives.
For tredje år i træk stiger antallet af mennesker i verden, som sulter. Sidste år var der 821 millioner kronisk underernærede mennesker i verden, hvilket er en stigning fra 811 mio. året før. 1 ud af 9 lider af sult. Afrika er det område i verdenen med den største forekomst af sult - der er 1 ud af 5, som sulter i Afrika.
Social beskyttelse kan hjælpe folk med at håndtere de risici de står over for, f.eks. fattigdom, social udstødelse, ulighed og fødevareusikkerhed, og beskytte de mest sårbare mod chok og stress gennem hele deres liv.
Cox’ Bazar har været en af WFP’s største indsatser i Asien siden august 2017, da mere end 700.000 Rohingya flygtninge begyndte af flygte fra undertrykkelse og vold i Rakhine-staten i Myanmar. Den danske regering var en af de første donorer til at støtte WFP’s katastrofeindsats blandt Rohingya flygtningene.
Konflikter, økonomiske chok, ekstreme klimaforhold og høje gødningspriser skaber tilsammen en fødevarekrise af hidtil uset omfang. Så mange som 783 millioner mennesker er usikre på hvor deres næste måltid kommer fra.
FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har langvarige partnerskaber med tænketanke og den akademiske verden med ekspertise inden for en bred vifte af fagområder.
I tre år drømte Yar Mayom Arok, mor til syv børn, hver dag om at vende tilbage til sit hjem i Jalle, en lille sydsudanesisk by i udkanten af Sudd - Afrikas største vådområde.
Hun og hendes familie flygtede fra deres hjem i 2020, da oversvømmelsesvand fra den nærliggende Nil-floden brød igennem et dige og oversvømmede deres by i den centrale del af landet.
