Eskalerende vold i det nordlige Mozambique skubber hundredtusindvis af mennesker ud i fødevareusikkerhed, ifølge Lola Castro, WFP's regionale direktør for det sydlige Afrika.
"Situationen er alvorlig," siger hun.
WFP har nået ud til 300.000 mennesker med akut nødvendig fødevarebistand og har planer om at optrappe kraftigt for at nå ud til 900.000 mennesker - hvis finansieringen lykkes - efter de dødelige jordskælv, der ramte langs grænsen mellem Tyrkiet og Syrien den 6. februar.

FN's World Food Programme (WFP) står til enhver tid i frontlinjen i kampen mod sult. Tusindvis af dedikerede medarbejdere bruger deres ekspertise og alle de midler de har til rådighed - lastbiler, fly, skibe, helikoptere og endda amfibiekøretøjer - til at sikre, at store mængder fødevarer og andre vigtige varer når frem til dem der har mest brug for dem.
WFP er til stede i over 120 lande og territorier. Vi yder livreddende assistance i nødsituationer og støtter bæredygtige og modstandsdygtige levebrød for at opnå en verden uden sult.
Der er mange måder at støtte WFP's mission om at udrydde sult på, fra at give et bidrag der hjælper os med at nå ud til sårbare mennesker verden over, til at indgå partnerskaber med os for at bidrage med kapacitet og ekspertise til vores arbejde med at redde og ændre liv.
Den ekstraordinære langvarige tørke mellem 2020 og 2022 på Afrikas Horn har ikke efterladt tilstrækkelig tid til genopretning fra den ene udeblevne regnsæson til den næste, hvilket har medført at pastorale, agropastorale og landbrugssamfund har mistet deres husdyr og afgrøder.
