Created in 1961 as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system, WFP was to be reassessed within three years. As crises multiplied, the experiment proved its worth. Today, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency saving lives and changing lives.
FN's World Food Programme (WFP) står til enhver tid i frontlinjen i kampen mod sult. I tre år drømte Yar Mayom Arok, mor til syv børn, hver dag om at vende tilbage til sit hjem i Jalle, en lille sydsudanesisk by i udkanten af Sudd - Afrikas største vådområde.
Hun og hendes familie flygtede fra deres hjem i 2020, da oversvømmelsesvand fra den nærliggende Nil-floden brød igennem et dige og oversvømmede deres by i den centrale del af landet.

Siden 27. august har WFP forsynet flere end 68.800 mennesker med højenergikiks, i takt med de ankommer til de allerede overfyldte interimistiske lejre i Cox’s Bazar.
Den allerede alvorlige situation i Haiti, der har et af de højeste niveauer af fødevareusikkerhed i verden, blev forværret efter et jordskælv med en styrke på 7,2, der ramte regioner i den sydvestlige del af landet den 14. august 2021.
