Mens rekordmange mennesker flygter fra krige og konflikter, vokser bekymringerne for, at det går den forkerte vej med at bekæmpe global sult.

FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) er stolt over at arbejde sammen med mere end 1.000 ikke-statslige organisationer (NGO'er) rundt omkring i verden, fra små græsrodsbevægelser til store internationale hjælpeorganisationer.
Nye opgørelser viser, at antallet af sultne mennesker i verden fortsætter med at stige og er nu nået op på 821 millioner i 2017 eller hvad der svarer til ét ud af ni mennesker, ifølge rapporten The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018, som er blevet lanceret i dag.
”Sikkerhedsrådets afstemning i dag er et enormt skridt fremad i indsatsen for at bryde cirklen af konflikt og sult, som står i vejen for fremgang og fred for flere hundrede millioner mennesker,” siger David Beasley.
I tre år drømte Yar Mayom Arok, mor til syv børn, hver dag om at vende tilbage til sit hjem i Jalle, en lille sydsudanesisk by i udkanten af Sudd - Afrikas største vådområde.
Hun og hendes familie flygtede fra deres hjem i 2020, da oversvømmelsesvand fra den nærliggende Nil-floden brød igennem et dige og oversvømmede deres by i den centrale del af landet.

Et stigende antal væbnede konflikter, forringet sikkerhed, fattigdom og klimaforandringer udgør en reel trussel mod landene i det centrale Sahel. Angreb på civile og infrastruktur og konflikt mellem staten og ikke-statslige væbnede grupper har ført til massive befolkningsfordrivelser i Burkina Faso, Mali og Niger.
Konflikter, økonomiske chok, ekstreme klimaforhold og høje gødningspriser skaber tilsammen en fødevarekrise af hidtil uset omfang. Så mange som 783 millioner mennesker er usikre på hvor deres næste måltid kommer fra.
NEW YORK – Onsdag 25 september 2019: FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag lanceret næste fase af en biografannonce kampagne, som har givet store resultater. Kampagnen har i USA skabt en stigning på 40% i kendskabet til WFP’s livreddende arbejde med at bekæmpe sult i verden.
