Den allerede alvorlige situation i Haiti, der har et af de højeste niveauer af fødevareusikkerhed i verden, blev forværret efter et jordskælv med en styrke på 7,2, der ramte regioner i den sydvestlige del af landet den 14. august 2021.
Det er ikke engang middag i Satara, en fjerntliggende landsby i Nigers sydvestlige Tillaberi-region, og termometeret er allerede tæt på 40 grader celsius. Den ubefæstede vej til landsbyen er ujævn og sandet.
Konflikter, økonomiske chok, ekstreme klimaforhold og høje gødningspriser skaber tilsammen en fødevarekrise af hidtil uset omfang. Så mange som 783 millioner mennesker er usikre på hvor deres næste måltid kommer fra.
WFP er til stede i over 120 lande og territorier. Vi yder livreddende assistance i nødsituationer og støtter bæredygtige og modstandsdygtige levebrød for at opnå en verden uden sult.
Etiopien står i øjeblikket over for to nødsituationer som forværrer fødevareusikkerheden i landet.
Næsten to år efter starten af konflikt har mennesker brug for, mere end nogensinde, akut fødevarebistand i det nordlige Etiopien.
Ud af de mere end 12 millioner mennesker vi støtter hver måned, udgør de den gruppe, der er i størst risiko for at sulte.
Sult er grusomt for alle, men ikke fuldstændig blind. Kvinder — især i krigstider — er lettere ofre for de lidelser, den medfører. Kvinder spiser sidst, og de spiser mindst.
Mød Halima
Denne historie ender nok ikke på den måde som du måske forventer. Den starter i Somalia, et land der er ramt af en tørke som har fået over 1 million mennesker til at forlade deres hjem. Halima og hendes familie var blandt dem.
Halima kæmpede mod den vedvarende sol for at finde nok vand til sin familie. Efterhånden måtte der træffes valg.
