Mens behovet for hjælp stiger drastisk, appellerer WFP om omgående økonomisk støtte og uhindret humanitær adgang.

FN’s Fødevare- og Landbrugsorganisation (FAO) og FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) har i dag udgivet rapporten The Early Warning Analysis of Acute Food Insecurity Hotspots, som beskriver en farlig kombination af konflikt, økonomisk tilbagegang, ekstreme klimaforhold og COVID-19-pandemien, der skubber folk tættere på katastrofefasen af fødevareusikkerhed.

Purni var 25 år gammel da hun kom til Nepal som flygtning fra Bhutan sammen med sin mand og baby. Hun havde ikke forstillet sig, at hun skulle have tre børn i flygtningelejren, og at hun stadig ville bo der 25 år senere.
”For millioner af børn rundt omring i verden, er det måltid, som de modtager i skolen, det eneste måltid de modtager om dagen. Uden det vil de sulte, de risikerer at blive syge, droppe ud af skolen, og dermed miste deres bedste chance for at undgå fattigdom.
I Sahel betød den umiddelbare adgang til fleksible midler, at WFP kunne kick-starte indsatsen i forhold til den værste høstsæson i fire år, nå ud til over 3 millioner mennesker med fødevareassistance samt afværge en enorm fødevarekrise.
