Danmark er en dedikeret og aktiv medspiller for FN’s World Food Programme (WFP). Danmark giver både vigtig økonomisk støtte og værdifulde bidrag i diskussionerne om overordnede politikområder og landeoperationer. Danmark er en stærk fortaler for godt humanitært donorskab og placerer sig konsekvent i toppen af kernebidragsyderne til WFP.
Cox’ Bazar har været en af WFP’s største indsatser i Asien siden august 2017, da mere end 700.000 Rohingya flygtninge begyndte af flygte fra undertrykkelse og vold i Rakhine-staten i Myanmar. Den danske regering var en af de første donorer til at støtte WFP’s katastrofeindsats blandt Rohingya flygtningene.
Over hele verden har op til 783 millioner mennesker ikke mad nok, og mere end 40 millioner mennesker i 51 lande befinder sig i en " kritisk" eller endnu værre sulttilstand.
I Sahel betød den umiddelbare adgang til fleksible midler, at WFP kunne kick-starte indsatsen i forhold til den værste høstsæson i fire år, nå ud til over 3 millioner mennesker med fødevareassistance samt afværge en enorm fødevarekrise.
ROM – I 2019 modtog FN’s World Food Programme (WFP) DKK 2,8 milliarder i fleksible bidrag, hvilket svarer til fem procent af WFP’s samlede bidrag – og væsentligt under rekorden på 19 procent i 2002.
Fleksible – eller ikke øremærkede – bidrag betyder, at WFP kan bestemme hvor og hvordan, pengene skal bruges.
Den allerede alvorlige situation i Haiti, der har et af de højeste niveauer af fødevareusikkerhed i verden, blev forværret efter et jordskælv med en styrke på 7,2, der ramte regioner i den sydvestlige del af landet den 14. august 2021.
